A Migadu alternative, priced against the daily sending cap

Migadu Micro allows 20 outgoing messages a day. What each Migadu plan costs to lift that cap, what the alternatives charge for the same sending, and how to move your mail across.

Migadu is a careful, independent Swiss company that has hosted email since 2014, and its prices are by storage rather than by user. The thing that sends people looking for an alternative is almost always the same: the daily cap on outgoing mail. Here is what lifting it costs at Migadu, and what it costs elsewhere.

Migadu's ladder, by what you can send

migadu.com/pricing, checked 6 October 2026. Limits are for the whole account, not per mailbox. Past the limit plus a 25% tolerance, outgoing mail is rejected and incoming mail is deferred until the next day.

Twenty messages a day is plenty for a personal domain. For a business it is roughly one busy morning: a few replies, a quote, an invoice, two calendar invites, and a forward to the accountant. The next step, Mini, is almost five times the price for a hundred a day. A team of five that each sends thirty messages on a normal day needs Standard, at $290 a year.

The incoming side matters too. Micro accepts 200 messages a day for the whole account, newsletters and notifications included. Past that, Migadu defers new mail until the next day, and a sender that gives up after 48 hours bounces it.

What the same sending costs elsewhere

HostYearly price for a small teamCap on ordinary mail
Migadu Standard$290500 outgoing a day for the account
MXroute Small$59, 10 GB400 an hour per address
Purelymail$10, more on advanced pricing if you use a lotNo hard limits stated; marketing mail not allowed
Faivelo Starter$60 on yearly billing, 10 GB pooledNot metered; a safety stop at 2,000 an hour per login
Faivelo Growth$120 on yearly billing, 200 GB pooledNot metered, plus 3,000 opted-in marketing sends a month

If you only need more sending and are happy doing your own DNS, MXroute is the cheapest fix. If you want the team on phone apps, the records placed and watched for you, and a newsletter from the same domain, Faivelo Growth is $170 a year less than Migadu Standard and has no daily cap on mailbox mail.

What Migadu does well, honestly

Reasons to stay

  • Pricing by storage, unlimited addresses and domains on every plan
  • Swiss company, self-funded, support from the postmasters who run it
  • Built-in DNS, and they will set up your email records for free if you ask
  • A free trial on every plan

Reasons to move

  • A daily outgoing cap on every plan, rejected past the tolerance
  • Best-effort support on the two cheapest plans
  • Bring your own mail app; no Migadu phone app
  • Not built for newsletters or bulk sending

If the cap has never bitten you, there is no reason to leave. Migadu is one of the few hosts that publishes exactly what it will and will not do, and it does it well.

Moving off Migadu

Migadu uses the same servers for every domain: IMAP at imap.migadu.com on port 993 with TLS, and your full address with the mailbox password to sign in. Create the same addresses at the new host, copy the mail across over IMAP, switch the MX and replace the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in one edit, then copy again an hour later to catch what arrived in between. On Faivelo the copy runs from the migration tool in the dashboard, and the records are placed for you at most registrars.

Keep the Migadu account until the plan runs out. A month of overlap is the cheapest insurance in email, and on a yearly plan you have already paid for it. The step-by-step order is in how to move email to a new provider without losing mail.

Twenty a day is a personal plan. Price the plan you will actually need, then compare.

FAQs

Is the Migadu limit per mailbox or per account?

Per account. Every mailbox on the plan shares the daily incoming and outgoing allowance, which is why a team reaches it faster than one person.

What happens when I go over the Migadu daily limit?

Migadu allows up to 25% over the plan limit, then rejects outgoing messages until the next day or an upgrade. The incoming limit works the same way: past it, new mail is deferred, and senders usually retry for up to 48 hours before it bounces.

Is Faivelo cheaper than Migadu?

Not than Micro, which is $19 a year to our $60. It is cheaper than the Migadu plan most teams end up needing: Standard is $290 a year, Faivelo Growth $120.

Can I keep my addresses?

Yes. They belong to your domain. Create them at the new host before you change MX, and senders never notice the move.
