Short answer: nowhere, until you add it. Cloudflare Registrar is a registrar and a DNS host, not a mailbox provider. Your options are a free forwarder, any email host whose records you put in Cloudflare DNS, or a host that connects to Cloudflare and writes them for you.
What you actually bought
Cloudflare's registrar documentation says you buy and renew domains at cost, paying only what the registry and ICANN charge, with DNSSEC and redacted WHOIS included (developers.cloudflare.com/registrar, checked 6 October 2026). It says nothing about email because there is nothing to say: no mailbox, no webmail, no bundled Workspace trial.
That is a feature, not an oversight. Registrars that bundle email usually fund the cheap domain with the email renewal. Cloudflare charges nothing on the domain and leaves email to you, which means you get to pick the host on its merits rather than inheriting whatever was pre-ticked at checkout.
The three routes, priced
| Route | What you get | Cost | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare Email Routing | Forwarding of any address on the domain to an inbox you already have | Free on every Cloudflare plan | Receive only. You cannot reply as the domain without extra setup. |
| Any email host, records pasted by hand | Real mailboxes, webmail, IMAP on your phone | Whatever the host charges per seat or flat | Six to twelve records typed into the Cloudflare DNS editor, each one DNS-only. |
| A host that connects to Cloudflare | The same mailboxes, records written for you | Faivelo: $6 a month flat for unlimited mailboxes | You authorise the host once in your Cloudflare account. |

Email Routing is the right first stop if all you need is to receive. Enable it under Email in the dashboard, pick a destination address, confirm it, and Cloudflare adds the MX and SPF records itself. Cloudflare's guide says the change usually completes within five to fifteen minutes on Cloudflare DNS. The limits page allows 200 rules per domain and 200 verified destinations per account, which is more than a person will use.
The moment you need to answer as the domain, Routing stops being enough. We wrote up the symptoms and the fixes in Cloudflare Email Routing can't send, so this page will not repeat them. The short version is that replying needs a mailbox, and a mailbox needs a host.
Adding a host without leaving Cloudflare
Your DNS stays at Cloudflare whichever host you choose. The host gives you MX records that say where to deliver, an SPF record that says who may send, a DKIM key that signs what you send, and a DMARC policy that tells receivers what to do when something fails. You add those in the Cloudflare DNS editor, type by type, with the proxy switched off on anything that names a mail server.
Or you let the host do it. Faivelo asks for a one-time authorisation on your Cloudflare account, writes every record DNS-only, checks that Email Routing is not still holding the MX, and verifies the lot. The whole thing is a few minutes and is written up step by step in the Cloudflare setup guide. After that, Cloudflare keeps the domain and the DNS; Faivelo keeps the mailboxes.
Cloudflare took the markup out of the domain. The sensible next move is a host that takes the per-seat out of the mail.
What to check on day one
Whichever route you take, run the domain through a DNS checker once the records are in. It should show one MX set pointing at one host, a single SPF record, a DKIM key the host can find, and a DMARC policy. Two MX sets means Routing is still on. Two SPF records means an old one was never removed, which fails authentication outright. The free email checkup reads all of this and tells you what to fix.
Then send yourself a message from an outside account and reply to it. If the reply arrives with your domain in the From line and no "via" note, you are done.
Mailboxes for your Cloudflare domain
Connect your Cloudflare account once. Faivelo writes the records, creates hello@, support@ and every name you need, and bills one flat $6 a month for all of them. Free for fourteen days, no card.
